The following video links are meant for veterinarians or very curious pet owners with strong stomachs. The procedure described is designed to remove the anal glands of small animals while leaving intact the surrounding muscle. This is a technique derived from ferret anal gland sacculectomies. The benefits of this technique compared to the traditional method of removal are; no or vastly decreased risk of incontinence, improved healing time, and better cosmetic effect. Anal gland sacculectomies are often recommended in small animals with frequent anal gland abscesses or neoplastic disease.
